I've only been able to find and photograph a couple of the Spangled Skimmer dragonflies (Libellula cyanea) at our pond and these have all been males. While the males are a bright blue, the females are yellow and brown with a a broad brown stripe on the abdomen.
This species may be identified by the stigmas (spots on wing tips). Both male and female, mature and immature, have the unusual, bright stigmas. No other dragonfly in our area has a stigma that looks like this.
