Sunset

The weather for the last couple of weeks has been cold and cloudy, and you may have noticed I haven't posted too many updates this month. I've spent the last couple of weeks indoors, enjoying the heat from the wood stove and planning some warm weather projects.

We may have received a couple of inches of fresh snow overnight, but today was the first warm, sunny day in a long time, and the day ended with a very colorful sunset.

Sunset fron the top of the hill

After a week of dark, cloudy days, a colorful sunset was a beautiful sight. Timing is everything when trying to photograph a sunset. The first problem is being in the right location at the right time. Having a good viewing location doesn't help if there aren't some clouds on the horizon to reflect the sunlight. The next timing issue with sunsets is the duration. They don't last very long and the colors are continually changing along with the cloud formations.

I was very lucky to get a photograph of this sunset. By the time I noticed the pinkish/orange glow in the sky and drove to my favorite sunset location, I only had a few seconds to enjoy and photograph the sunset.

Sunset at the farm

The clean white snow-cover from the Christmas snowstorm  is starting to turn light gray  as we progress into Winter and most of the leafless trees are now a drab brownish-gray. An evening sunset added some color to the otherwise black/white view of our farm property. (Click on image to enlarge)

Fog, Clouds and Sunset

Yesterday was a beautiful day, weather-wise. That was yesterday and a cold front came through today bringing heavy rain, high winds and tornado warnings. By the late afternoon the rain had stopped and I took a drive to the cabin property to look for deer and watch the sunset.

From the cabin property I was able to look toward Wysox and see the fog filling the valley along Route 187.

Around 7:00PM the sky to the west started to clear as the Sun was starting to set. Since our cabin is on top of a hill I have a good view to the west to watch the Sun set, but for a short time today the clouds to the east were putting on a show.

The sky in the west turned colorful for a short time as the Sun finally set.

Sunsets

We've had a lot of interesting weather this year and sometimes it creates a nice sunset. I often head to our cabin in the evening to watch for deer but sometimes take photos of the sunsets.
