Chicory has been described as "a great roadside wildflower" and is blooming along our neighborhood road. Blooms open in the morning and close later in the day.
Chicory has a bright blue flower and is found along roads due to its preference for full sun and a heavy soil that contains clay or gravel. Road salt and alkaline conditions are tolerated better than most plants.
Insects, such as this hoverfly also like chicory for its nectar.
