Spring Wildflowers

The Mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) is not like the fruit tree apple but is a perennial plant with two large leaves and one flower. The Mayapple, which is also known as Mandrake, is a member of the Barberry Family (Berberidaceae).

The fruit of the Mayapple is edible when ripe but all other parts of the plant are toxic.
